Pods Swimming originated in 1996 as the Ocean State Squids Learn to Swim program at Brown University. Coach Susan Pascale joined Squids in 1996 and Jamie Pascale in 1999; under world-class swimming coach Joshua Stern, they focused on teaching children proper stroke technique at a young age. They were also encouraged to support each child to reach his or her full potential, regardless of swimming level.
Susan and Jamie successfully built Pods into a solid program for the USS swimming club, the Bay and Ocean State Squids. From 1996 until 2007, they provided the starting block for countless top swimmers in New England. When the Brown University pool closed in 2007, Pods separated from Squids and became its own swim school. From 2007 to present, Pods has demonstrated ongoing excellence, providing this same foundation for Seacoast Swimming Association.
Susan, Jamie and Pods' other experienced staff continue to focus on giving youth the proper stroke instruction they need for building strong swimmers and the encouragement they need to reach their full potential.
The ultimate goal of Pods Swimming is for children to be safe in the water, to love the water, and to enjoy the sport of swimming for a lifetime. We work with each child individually to provide the best possible learning environment to reach his, her, or their highest potential.
We teach without flotation devices; children at all levels will swim unassisted. We believe this allows them to feel and move around in the water in the most natural position. Pods Swimming aims to have children learn proper stroke technique at the earliest age possible.
Pods Swimming believes in upholding the highest professional standards for instruction in swimming and aquatic safety. We do this by being active in the nation's top swimming associations and by keeping our staff trained, certified, and current in best practices and safety.
Our new year-round, state of the art facility on 111 Commercial Way in East Providence RI opened in March 2017 and is designed to give our parents and students the assurance that the swim environment and water quality are best in class. Our 11,900 square foot facility features two pools, men's and women’s locker rooms, a family changing room, and a snack bar.
Pods Swimming is Seacoast Swimming Association's swim school. Seacoast Swimming Association is a nationally recognized USA swim team that consistently ranks in the top 3-5% of all USA swim teams in the country.
